For quite some time now, I’ve been trying to use my MDA as a modem for my laptop with Vista, for when I’m not home. Last night I was able to figure it out. It’s pretty easy to do. Your laptop needs to have bluetooth device enabled and paired with the phone. Here are the steps to get this working correctly.
- First think is you want to make the laptop discoverable.
Go to: Start > Control Panel > Network and Internet > Set up a Bluetooth enabled device.
- Go to: Options and check “Allow Bluetooth devices to find this computer.”
- Now go to the MDA and click on Start > Settings > Connections > Bluetooth
- Add new device
This will pick up your laptop. Once it’s found select it and follow the steps. You will need to create a passkey
- Now you need to add the device in the laptop. Make sure that the Bluetooth for the MDA is set to be found.
- Now in the Bluetooth Devices screen click on “Add”
- Select your device from the list and continue
- Enter the same passkey that you used in the MDA and continue.
- After you have finished setting up the device in Vista you need to enable the internet connection sharing in the MDA.
- Go to Start > Programs > Internet Sharing.
- Select Bluetooth PAN for the PC Connection and T-Mobile Data for the Network Connection
- Click on connect.
- Now we make Vista use the connection…
Go to Start > Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center
- Select “Set up a connection or a network” from the left hand side.
- Select “Connect to a Bluetooth personal area network (PAN)” from the list
- A new screen will pop up. Just click on connect.
- Wait for the connection to go through and you’re all set.
The connection speed is not that great but it does get the job done :). Hope this is helpful for some. If you don’t understand some of the steps, feel free to ask for more info :).
